Genre Research: Action

Image
Our first project in media studies was to choose a genre and create a PowerPoint around it. We had a few options to choose from so everyone wouldn't have the same genre. Genres such as thriller, comedy, horror,  and action were all ones we could choose to do the PowerPoint on. Even before we started the PowerPoint we had discussed many things. Some things such as when we would work on it is a good example of what we had to discuss, especially because we were on different schedules. The most important thing me and my partner had to do was figure out a genre that both us would look forward to. It would've been much harder to complete the project if it wasn't something we were into. Since it was our first project together we wanted to make sure we were both happy with whatever we decided to study about. We quickly decided that both of us really like action. So, because of our interest in everything action packed, we decided that our genre PowerPoint would be about ...

Genre Researcher: Thriller/Horror

Image
Both the thriller and horror genres helped us create more ideas for our film. Additionally learning about all these genres helped us determine which one our idea fell under. It also showed us the important things needed to be included in our film. Especially the things to make it successful. Without properly learning these things it would've been extremely hard to complete all the steps needed for an amazing production. Throughout the entire process of learning we each ended up creating better ideas and adding them into our script. It also helped give us better insight into the genres and how we could better incorporate them. Studying the different genres made things easier for us and our other blogs.    The horror genre helped us learn more about the art of suspense and jump scares. By watching different movies and seeing the types of cams and editing used we were able to get a better understanding of a lot of things. It showed us how the art of slow camera movements and thin...

Title Research: 3:19

www.watchthetitles.com -  What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? The opening sequence first displayed the production companies of the film. It showed the three different production companies, one after the other. The camera would approach the title, then move past it to show the next one. After showing the names of those companies, the opening sequence displayed the title of the film.  -  What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? There were many images prioritized in the opening sequence.  The scenery of some sort of innovative contraption  holding our solar system in space was displayed for most of the video. Another prioritized image would be the conflict shown after the camera zooms down into Earth. The conflict being the beheading of King Louis XVI in 2D animation. After showing that image, the camera zooms out of Earth to show to solar system/ time-controlling contraption. The camera then zooms back into Earth to show a real-life...

Title Research: Crash

(Links to an external site.) www.watchthetitles.com     -  What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? The opening sequence first displayed the producers of the film, along with the production company. It then shows the director's name. The cast names, starting off with the main characters, appear. Shortly after, the film title is displayed twice. The first time it is shown, it is approaching the screen as a spotlight goes over it. The second time it appears is when the spotlight shines over it again, only to show the title closer in a somewhat eerie kind of way.      -  What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? Throughout the opening sequence, there was a constant blue background that would be shined on by some sort of light. As the film title is "Crash", it is safe to assume that the spotlight is meant to resemble the headlights of a car.     -  What connotations do these images carry? A connotation these i...

Title Research: She Dies Tomorrow

Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

Image
https://www.watchthetitles. com/designers/    After conducting our title research on  artofthetitle.com , we explored  Watch the Titles!.  After browsing  Watch the Titles! , we saw all the website had to offer. Far more than  Art of The Title .  Watch the Titles!  was far more extensive. The website offered interviews from professional title artist, openings of various films, successful student title art, and quotes from the artists under each film. The interviews alone offered deep insight of the art of title art, teaching us the components and inspirations to have in our film title. The site even had options where searching for specific films, studios, and designers. Allowing us to easily search for film within the same genre of our film. Even though the plots may not be similar compared to the film titles we research, though the genre is the same. Viewing multiple examples of film titles in our genre allowed us to view the con...

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
https://www.artofthetitle.com   To initiate our title research, we began with Art of the Title. When first going on the site, we learned that the sight mostly consisted of opening of popular films. There were tabs where one could look for specific Titles, designer, or studio. To further extend our research our research, we looked at two different openings of film. We learned that the design style of a film always depends of the films plot and genre. Though, the website didn't state this directly. After watching multiple opening of films, we noticed that the title always correlated with the opening. We now have a better understanding how we're going to design our film title. Our group have already agreed on what our films genre is, and the plot structure. With that much done, we are more than ready to begin creating our film title.

Genre Research: His House

Image
This movie is a horror thriller. It was about two refuges from South Sudan, trying to settle in their new life in England. But little did they know, they more than just a  piece of home. It is based on the African Myth of Diyka. They had brought an "apeth" which can also be seen as a demon to their new home. This demon wants them to repay their debut for taking a mothers child as a way to get out of their war torn country, which died during the crossing on a boat. This house that they moved into, was haunted by littles girls soul, along with the other souls that died during their in the ocean.  The main thing that stuck out to me was, the background music throughout the movie. Every time Bol saw a demon in the wall, or get taunted by the other demons, the sound a high pitch noise would follow. This element was mainly used to add to the jump scare factor of the movie. My partners and I, were thinking about doing the same thing in our movie. Whereas every time  the k...

Genre Research: Secret Obsession

Image
This movie was about a woman, Jenifer, lost her memory to a car accident. This is a thriller and suspense movie. With her husband helping her recover, she starts to question if that is really her husband. As she tries to gain her memory back about her life before the accident, she starts to remember pieces of the life she lived and what happened to her before getting hit.  The movie starts off the Jenifer running away from, this unknown man, who seems like he wanted to kill her. The movie shows, Jenifer recovering from the hit, along with getting to know her "husband", Russel, again. As there is a feeling of comfort for Jenifer, there is also a feeling of unease as the actions of Russel become more off putting and stand out. We want to to add that suspense in our movie. So we deicide that we wanted to use the dialog of the characters and the swiftness of the "stalker" to create the uneasy feeling in the movie. But we also wanted to show the contrast of how the cha...

Genre Research: The Invitation

Image
The Invitation is a thriller, psychological, horror. It is about a man, Will, who gets invited to a dinner party, by his late ex-wife, to reunite with friends after two years. This movie had a lot of similar element my partners and I talked about in our meeting.   One of Eric's idea for the movies was to have a bit of tension between two of the characters, and or, imply that there was something off between them. In the movie, the audience is left to wonder about what happened to the relationship of the characters. The reunion was very off between the friends because of the lost of the ex's son. The ex's wife seemed as if she was trying to leave the legacy of her son behind, while the husband, was not ready to let go. The tension starts to increase as he realizes that his ex has changed for the worst. There was also a small scene where the ex's were catching up in the kitchen, as the wife is talking about how she had found her new purpose in life. One of the friends joi...

Genre Decision Blog

Image
When we talked about how we wanted our film to look, we all had tons of ideas. All these ideas included different genres and character layouts. Obviously some had to be scrapped but the goal was to ultimately have everyone's ideas involved. Being in a group meant that all our ideas were valid and had to be considered in our script. That wasn't what we always thought though. In the beginning when the assignment was first given out we didn't know we were going to be working with each other. In fact it was never our intention. Because of that we all had a million ideas about our own independent films and how they would look. Eventually though we realized that it was a lot of work to do everything by ourselves. So in an effort to avoid stress and get the job done faster we decided putting together our ideas was the best idea possible. This wasn't easy in any way and did cause some stumps along the road. Nonetheless we were determined to do this. We had to listen to each oth...

Our Pitch

Image
Pitch One: A group of people getting ready for a party realize that a murderer has escaped prison and is somewhere in her neighborhood. Pitch two: two girls start to realize their house might be haunted by something sinister.  The first pitch would be a thriller/action film. My group and I would make it have a lot of suspense and mystery surrounding it so it's interesting. I would want to do this one because it just sounds very interesting and it seems doable, considering it is only the first two minutes of the entire film. My group member had this idea since the beginning of the year and hoped we could pull it off in a beautiful and conventional way. I, too, had an idea of these sorts. It was not this specific pitch but my idea was extremely similar. Pitch two would also be a thriller movie. The only twist is it will also be in the genre of horror to help add to the desired affect. This movie will center around two main characters and the downhill of a slumber party. This idea rec...

Starting the Final Task

Image
Hi Cambridge, my name is Mya Nikole Rodriguez. I am a junior at Fort Lauderdale High School. I have been a part of the Cambridge program since my sophomore year and it has definitely changed me. I find myself to be hardworking and capable; and I would have never realized my full potential if I had continued with my lazy, mediocre ways. Although it has been a harsh change in character, I know that it is something I need to adapt to. I am finding ways to not lose myself along the process.  For my final task, I chose to work in a group. I am working with Keren C., Tiana G., and Eric B.. When it came to who I was working with, it was not completely up to me. When our AICE Media teachers explained our final task in class, Keren automatically emailed me, asking for us to work together. Initially, I wanted to work alone because I felt covid and distance would complicate the project; however, I liked working with Keren. I have worked with her on every film project since the beginning of th...
