Genre Research: His House

This movie is a horror thriller. It was about two refuges from South Sudan, trying to settle in their new life in England. But little did they know, they more than just a  piece of home. It is based on the African Myth of Diyka. They had brought an "apeth" which can also be seen as a demon to their new home. This demon wants them to repay their debut for taking a mothers child as a way to get out of their war torn country, which died during the crossing on a boat. This house that they moved into, was haunted by littles girls soul, along with the other souls that died during their in the ocean.

The main thing that stuck out to me was, the background music throughout the movie. Every time Bol saw a demon in the wall, or get taunted by the other demons, the sound a high pitch noise would follow. This element was mainly used to add to the jump scare factor of the movie. My partners and I, were thinking about doing the same thing in our movie. Whereas every time  the killer moves outside an eerie sound accompanies that. I also liked how mis-en-scene, had a deep meaning to the story. Because this couple is trying to adjust to their new life, viewers can see the changes they are making to fit in. Throughout the movie Bol is trying to fit in with the European standards, to be accepted more. While his wife, Rial, is sticking to her roots and not conforming to the way others. This was to display hoe people of color are either forced into one of two boxes: Following the system that oppresses you, or be true to who you are and where you come from. It also helps push the narrative that all black people do not think the same, by showing how the couple is individualistic with how they look and act.

As the person how will be in charge of styling the characters for this movie, I have noticed that all the characters are individualistic, with they way they act, speak, and dress. I would like to implement that into the movies to make each character stand out more on their own.
