Critical Reflection Questions - Music Video Project

Image
1. My product uses conventions by mimicking camera movements and angles that can be seen in music videos. For instance, a medium shot can be found in many music videos. I used this in my scene by my group members and I setting up the camera in a way where you could only see me from the waist up. This is a great shot as it focuses on the actor yet shows a some context on what the actor is doing or maybe even how they are feeling. Another convention I used was posing and lip-syncing in front of the camera. In many music videos, there are a lot of scenes where the actors are singing to the song while looking like perfection. My group and I tried to exhibited that in my music video; however, we chose to not lip-sync for half of the lyrics and lacked a bit more candid moments as we looked into the cameras many times. This somewhat correlates with how I challenged some conventions. Since we were a bit less traditional, in a sense, it seems as though the focus of the music video was more on t...

Music Video Blog

Image
This music video project was our first group project so far. Getting to work together was fun since we hadn't seen each other in forever. It also made the work process a lot easier since we split the work up amongst everyone. During the entire project, everyone got the chance to increase their filming and editing skills. We were able to share our different ideas when putting together the video, as well as discuss the different effects, costumes, makeup, etc. Getting to work together really benefited us because everyone was good in different areas and combined together, we were able to put together something creative.     At the beginning, when we were first assigned the project, we spent a couple of days discussing the different aspects. We had many different things in mind for the video. We discussed everything as far as angles, shots, effects, transitions, CLAMPS and so much more. We then set a date to start the filming process at Kc's house...

Filming Blog: The Final Touch-ups

Image
My group and I had almost completed the filming aspect of our music video. In the beginning of the video, there was a certain part that had not been filmed. It was the transition scene from the instrumental in the intro to the first verse where I would appear. Because the setting was primarily in, my group member, Keren's room, this transition needed to take place in that very room. What my group and I were going for was a quick pan around the room with a tilt in the beginning. We needed this shot to come from the window of the room. This was difficult because of the format of the room. There is a mirror right across from the window. This, along with the bed right beside the window, brought struggles for the filming process of this specific scene. However, to reach our preferred shot, we used low lighting and rapid movement around the mirror area to avoid getting seen in the shot.  The next scenes that needed to be filmed were the ones that I would put in for the outro. The outro w...

Editing Blog: The Matching Game

Image
Primarily, it was Dezyrae, one of my group members, who was working on the editing aspect of this project. After doing her editing part, she passed over the editing to me. I collected the video from her and imported it into the iMovie app on my iPad. There, I detached the audio from the video itself and made it the background. I began to inspect the video and make note of the editing that way I could mimic it. I wanted to make sure it looked the same and that the video ran smoothly. There was some parts left out in the beginning and the end of the video. This was the left over scenes we needed to film. I began brainstorming ideas on what scenes would go well with the audio. I then discussed with my group. After the filming of those scenes, I simply put a filter on the clips and placed them nicely into the video. There was somewhat of a struggle, which was matching the clips to the beat of the music. As well as matching the lip-syncing to the lyrics. One final issue with this matching g...
