Filming Blog: My Aunt’s House
On Sunday, November 1st, I filmed my H&M commercial. I arrived at my aunt’s house at noon to film the shots I needed with my actors. I had chosen my Aunt Alejandra’s house since she had the type of family-style dining table that I envisioned for my commercial. Each actor had a piece of clothing from the H&M brand and the appropriate make up on. Since I had already had a vision of how I wanted the scenes to go, I began giving my actors instructions on what they should be doing so that the scene plays out well. It was hard getting the exact scenes that I wanted; however, the acting was genuine. This made the filming process fun and real, taking off a bit of the stress I previously had. We made a Thanksgiving dinner as my theme for the commercial was Thanksgiving to show the actors representing H&M’s fall collection.
The first scene was an overhead shot of the food we had prepared. The actors would grab the food and it would then proceed to the next scene, which was a tracking shot of my mother walking with the chicken, the main dish, and placing it on the table. As everyone settles down in their chairs, the next scene begins with the actors conversing as they serve their food. Next, I filmed a mid-shot of each of the actors conversing with one another and having a good time. To film this, I used a tripod and placed it on the dining table. I used this tripod for the remainder of the commercial. The entire process took about an hour. It could have gone better. Because of this experience, I now know what are some things I could do better when it comes to filming from now on.
