Commercial Blog: H&M Fall Season 2020: Spread Love and Give Thanks.

The process for my H&M commercial was a very educational one. I have learned so much from this experience and I am grateful for it. I learned how a filming process should go. Now, I know that any type of (professional) film does not just so straight to the filming. It is built up in a smooth and thought out manner. For example, a commercial begins with a product and an idea on how one may want to represent this product. Next is the planning, which would be the storyboard. I had no idea big time films started off as quickly-drawn, comic-style pitches. At first glance, I thought doing the storyboard before filming my commercial would be a waste of time. However, when I actually began filming, I found myself remembering the storyboard comic and having a clear image on how I wanted the commercial to go. This made the filming process run smoother and quicker. In all honesty, I was not too confident in the way the video was going. I felt dissatisfied with the shots, the angles, the lack of resources, etc. Yet, when I put the clips together, edited it the way I felt looked good, and tied it all together with the music and the filters, I fell in love with my product and learned a very valuable thing. This applies to anything one will do in their life. I learned to trust the process and that the whole really is greater than the sum of its parts. I am a person who loves all arts; drawing, singing, writing, painting, playing instruments, etc. So, I am naturally a perfectionist and suffer great anxiety when my vision is not portrayed the way I want it to. This commercial project showed me to, again, trust the process because of course the parts will not look good on their own. It is when they are put together and somewhat tended to when the real art is shown. I feel appreciate of this experience so I have no regrets, nothing I want to change.
